Two held over double Belfast murder

Detectives investigating the murder of two men in Belfast last week have arrested two people.

Detectives investigating the murder of two men in Belfast last week have arrested two people.

A man and a woman were detained this morning, but they are not suspected of murder.

The body of Edward Burns (36), who was shot in the head, was found near the Falls Road and the beaten corpse of Joe Jones (38) was discovered in Ardoyne on March 12th.

The killings were linked to tensions within dissident republicanism.

Mr Jones, from Poleglass in west Belfast, had head injuries. He had been severely beaten and police recovered a spade near the scene.

Mr Burns, from the Ardoyne area, was found in a car park off the Falls Road near St Gall's GAA club.
