Two firms to cut 68 jobs in Co Tipperary

Some 68 jobs are to be lost in Tipperary after two established companies announced today they were to lay-off staff.

In Templemore, the Taylor Made glazing plant has laid off 24 members of staff, which is  approximately a fifth of its workforce.

The majority of the employees laid off by Taylor Made Glass and Systems have been with the company for two years or more and are not seasonal workers taken on at times of high productivity.

In Ardfinnan, the Moy Isover plant announced it is to cut 44 jobs and cease the production of glasswool insulation products on October 31st next because of a downturn in the construction sector. 

Moy Isover said it had no alternative but to take this action as the market in which its "operate has moved beyond the economic capability of the site".
