Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting attack in Limerick city this morning.

Shots were fired at a house in the St Mary's Park estate at around 6am.

Two men were later arrested and a shotgun was recovered.

Meanwhile, drugs, a shotgun and ammunition were discovered during searches in the estate last night.

The planned searches were carried out by 50 armed detectives and members of the Emergency Response Unit in St Mary’s Park.

Heroin with an estimated value of up to €95,000 and a sawn-off shotgun were found in a house, while a second search on waste ground uncovered shotgun cartridges and a number of bullets.

There were no arrests.

The ERU has been deployed in the city following a machine gun attack on six houses in St Mary's Park  last month and an escalation in feud-related violence.
