A GERMAN man and a Swiss woman have been remanded in custody after being arrested and charged at the weekend with money laundering involving over £400,000 in Ireland.

Mr Gunter Hollman, with an address in Germany, and Ms Maria Bernadette Jehle of The Priory, Cobh, Co Cork, appeared before a special sitting of Midleton District Court on Saturday.

Ms Jehle (46), was charged with laundering £270,000 contrary to Section 31 (3) of the Criminal Justice Act at Main Street, Midleton, on May 16th.

Mr Hollmann, who is in his 40s, was charged with laundering of £160,000 contrary to Section 31 (3) of the Criminal Justice Act also at Main Street, Midleton, on May 16th.

Mr Hollman and Ms Jehle, who were arrested in Midleton on Friday, were also charged with failing to have a firearm certificate for a gun.

Responding to the charges at the 10 minute special sitting, both replied: "Nothing to say". Judge Terence Finn remanded them in custody to appear at Riverstown District Court tomorrow.
