If An Post were to cease its involvement in television licence fee collection, this activity would have to be put out to public tender, the Minister for Communications, Mr Ahern, told the House.
Speaking in the Committee Stage debate of the Broadcasting (Funding) Bill, Mr Ahern said An Post had indicated, at least informally, that it was considering getting out of licence fee collection. Any change in this regard would require amending legislation. There was a high proportion of compliance in this country, he added.
