Ankara - Turkey's Prime Minister, Mr Bulent Ecevit, said yesterday that the constitution may be changed within days to make it harder to close down political parties, easing fears of instability from a ban on the main opposition Islamist party.

The constitutional amendment, backed by all three parties in the coalition government, could have a direct bearing on a case against the Virtue Party that has stirred uncertainty in markets and concern in the European Union which Ankara seeks to join.
