MADRID - The Spanish government yesterday dismissed a week long truce offered by Basque ETA separatists as meaningless, saying it was a move to unsettle multi party political talks in the volatile province.

Politicians spanning the spectrum agreed that the offer on Sunday made little sense, coming just five days after a bomb attack and while ETA still held a kidnap victim.
