The eurozone will not enter a recession any time soon while growth in 2002 will be better than in 2001, Bank of France Governore and European Central Bank council member, Mr Jean-Claude Trichet said today.

Mr Trichet told a conference at the University of London: "We will not have a recession and...of course (growth) will progressively pick up again and 2002 will be better than 2001".

He was responding to a question about comments made yesterday by Bank of England Governor Mr Eddie George in which he said global growth would not recover to its earlier trend rate over the next 2-3 years.
