Dublin will have a new Lord Mayor in two weeks and, unusually, there hasn't been a row yet.
The 1999 rule barring serving members of the Oireachtas from the office has greatly reduced the tension surrounding the position.
FF's Maurice Ahern steps down as the new person takes over, on Monday July 2nd, in what will - definitely this time - be an election year. It is FF's turn again, and the word about City Hall is that the man to watch is former senator Michael Mulcahy.
Under the five-year FF/Labour pact, the Mansion House is divided between the two parties and FF was cute enough to take the two likely election years.
FF's Dublin city councillors meet on Wednesday to select their candidate and the runners are expected to be Mulcahy - whose selection for the Dβil in South Central will help his cause - former TD Mary Mooney and Tony Taaffe.
Labour has the office of deputy mayor and will select a candidate shortly. When Oireachtas members, former holders of the office and the three expelled for voting against the service charges are eliminated, only about four of the 14 Labour councillors appear eligible.
