Roma who had lost both their opening league games and are without a victory in the Champions League, led 2-1 at the break after Brescia responded to Totti's two goals with a Roberto Baggio penalty on the stroke of halftime.

Totti made it 3-1 with a spectacular solo strike nine minutes from time but Brescia's Austrian midfielder Markus Schopp pulled one back three minutes later.
