London - The Conservative Party is investigating reports that a deputy leader of the white supremacist group the Ku-Klux-Klan has joined the party and campaigned for its candidates during the election, writes Rachel Donnelly. In a report in yesterday's Guardian newspaper, Mr Bill Binding said he admired the Tory leader, Mr Iain Duncan Smith. Distancing himself from the comments, Mr Duncan Smith said he had "no truck with racists or those who use race as a politica l creed".

His leadership campaign suffered short-term damage this summer when it emerged that one of his supporters had links to the British National Party. The supporter was quickly thrown out of the party.
