Gardái are hunting for a man who they believe were part of a gang that tried to rob a service station in Headford, Co Galway this morning.

One man was arrested at the scene of the raid when the garage owner alerted gardaí at around 5.00 a.m. Three men escaped, one of whom was captured this morning. A third man was arrested this afternoon.

A number of checkpoints have been set up in the area and the Garda Air Support Unit is assisting the search.

It is understood the gang was armed, although no weapons have been found. There were no injuries reported during the incident.

A car, which was stolen in Dublin on Monday, was recovered at the scene.

The three men are being held at Millstreet Station in Galway under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
