Three Liverpool supporters, who travelled to Spain to watch their side's Champions League encounter with Barcelona, were arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing a prostitute, police said.

A police patrol detained the trio in the mid-afternoon after a waiter on the Ramblas boulevard in the centre of the city tipped them off.

Police battered down the door of a toilet at the bar where the unnamed three fans, aged between 25 and 36, had accosted their victim, who told police the supporters had tried to steal her mobile phone and 40 euros.

The woman was taken to hospital while her attackers, who had reportedly been drinking, were taken for questioning.
