Three people are dead after a gunman opened fire at a Nevada restaurant, wounding himself and nine others.
The shooting happened at about 9am at the Carson City IHOP restaurant in a shopping area on the state capital’s main street.
Carson City sheriff Kenny Furlong said the gunman was still alive in hospital but was not expected to survive.
Two of those killed and three of those wounded were Nevada National Guard members in uniform, authorities said. Mr Furlong said law enforcement officers responded but fired no shots during the incident.
It was not clear whether the gunman had any connection with the military or the National Guard, Nevada National Guard Sergeant Mike Getten said, adding Guard members were meeting at the breakfast restaurant.
Police and FBI agents attended the scene on South Carson Street, also called US 395, the state capital’s main street. Yellow tape surrounds the parking lot near a Kohl’s department store in a shopping complex across the street from a casino and hotel.
