Three men are in custody today after being charged in connection with the death of a man found on a roadside in Kildare Town early on Saturday morning.

The body of Paulo Siquiera, a Brazilian national in his late 30s, was found in Ruanbeg Close, in the town shortly after 4 am on June 4th.

Jose Batista (28) and Alessandro De Almeida Marta (29) also Brazilians with an address at Ruanbeg Place, Kildare, and Adriano Costa (23) of Ballymany, Newbridge, appeared in Naas District Court, charged in connection with his death.

All three have been charged with assault causing serious harm under Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

A special hearing of Naas District Court heard that when the charges were put to Mr De Almeida Marta, who has been in the country three years and works in Kildare, he said through an interpreter: "I deny everything."

Mr Batista who has been in Ireland for two years, gave no reply when he was charged this afternoon, Sgt John Flaherty told the court.

When the charges were put to Mr Costa, who is unemployed and has been in the country eight months, he said: "I'm saying all the time I didn't hit him," Detective Garda Padraig Teehan told the court.

Judge Murrough Connellan remanded the men in custody to appear at Cloverhill Court tomorrow.
