Italian pensioners gathered in Rome in their tens of thousands today to protest against the rising cost of living.
The union organised rally is on behalf of the 16 million pensioners in Italy which has one of the highest proportions of elderly in Europe.
Pensioners claim their purchasing power is being undermined. About 25 per cent Italy's pensioners receive a pension of less than €411 a month.
