The triumphant Galway team are en route to the city following their resounding nine point victory over Meath in yesterday’s All-Ireland final.

The team traveled from Dublin by train before stopping off at Ballinasloe to meet a coach which will deliver them to Cathedral Square.

Eyre Square, located in the heart of the city centre, is reportedly too small to host the thousands of people expected to welcome home their heroes and, of course, Sam Maguire.

The team will congregate for a civil reception in the car park at Cathedral Square before departing for Tuam and Tuam Stadium where they should arrive between 8 p.m and 8.30 p.m.

Between 10 p.m. and 11p.m the team will arrive back in the city centre to attend a banquet at the Sacre Coeur Hotel.

The team are likely to travel to Roscahill, Connemara - the home of winning captain Gary Fahey - tomorrow afternoon but no itinerary will be cemented until later tonight.

Speaking to ireland.comthis afternoon a jubilant Galway PRO, Norman Rochford, quipped: "Two weeks ago we were all sitting around with long faces on us but we are all glad that yesterday's victory gave us something to smile about."

Meanwhile, the All-Ireland Minor Football final replay between Tyrone and Dublin has been scheduled for this Saturday, October 29th. The match will be staged at Breffni Park in Cavan with throw-in at 3.30 p.m.

Tyrone led by three points as the match entered injury-time in yesterday’s final but a late, scrambled goal from David O’Callaghan salvaged a draw for the Dubs.
