Cheltenham - The gates of the GCHQ Intelligence-gathering centre opened yesterday to mark the end of a 13-year struggle which attained huge symbolic significance throughout the British trade union movement. A small group of former staff sacked for refusing to give up their union rights entered the centre as tangible evidence of the Labour government's pledge to lift the union ban imposed by the Thatcher administration on January 25th, 1984. - (Guardian Service)
