Seven men and three women are still being questioned in connection with the shooting dead of a man in north county Dublin last night.
The ten people, who are aged between 24 and 56, were arrested at a number of locations across north county Dublin.
They are being held at a number of Garda stations under Section 30 of the Offence Against the State Act and can be held for 72 hours.
Sean Winters was shot twice in the head outside The Links apartment complex on Station Road in Portmarnock shortly after 10pm. The complex is located near Portmarnock Dart station.
He was in his late 30s and is thought to have moved into the area from Raheny. His body was removed from the scene shortly before 11am after being examined by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.
Supt Mark Curran from Coolock Garda station said Mr Winters was shot dead while standing on the footpath.
At a briefing in Portmarnock today, Supt Curran said a silver Volkswagen Passat with a 98 OY registration was believed to be the getaway car. It was found burnt out at Templeview Close in Coolock a short time after the murder.
Station road is partially closed off to the public and the areas by the Dart station and apartment blocks have also been sealed off.
Local Labour councillor Peter Coyle said people in the area were shocked by the killing.
“Certainly it’s a shock to the whole community that this whole drugs war and criminals have come to such a quiet place as Portmarnock,” he said. “It’s also a gated community so the fact that he was attacked on the road, as there would have been security in the apartments themselves, is quite significant. The attack happened on the road because normally vehicles can’t get in to these apartments without a security pass.”
Mr Coyle said there are about 600 apartments in the vicinity of the Dart station, with many people renting and not known to their neighbours
Local resident Michelle McLoughlin said she was shaken by the incident. "You never think something like that will happen so close to home," she said. "I have a little son, so it made me nervous".
Mr Winter is the 19th person to have been shot dead this year.
The attack follows an attempted murder in a shooting incident in the north city suburb of Killester on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, a convicted drug dealer survived an apparent murder attempt when his would-be attacker’s hand gun jammed as he was about to be shot at close range.
The incident occurred outside the home of convicted cocaine dealer Eamon Kelly in Killester, north Dublin. Garda sources said Kelly has not made any complaint to them. However, gardaí believe the incident did happen. An investigation has begun at Raheny Garda station.
Kelly (63) was one of the first people in the State to be jailed for his involvement in dealing large amounts of cocaine.
Gardaí believe he walked out of his house on Furry Park Road, Killester, at around 10.30am on Saturday, and was confronted by a gunman. The armed man attempted to shoot Kelly, but his weapon jammed.
The gunman then ran from the scene in the direction of nearby Howth Road. It is believed Kelly tackled the attacker for a moment, before he managed to free himself and run off.
