A Dublin judge has criticised the temporary release system for facilitating criminals engaged in rural crime.

Judge Sean Delap at Rathfarnham District Court was told Jason O'Connor (21), Glenshane Drive, Tallaght, drove a car to Newbridge, Co Kildare, on January 13th and stole more than £2,000 worth of tools from another vehicle. O'Connor had received temporary release over Christmas.

He was sentenced to 10 months for larceny and disqualified from driving for three years for using a car to commit a crime.
