Teenies have Six stars on the brain

Six
Signing on: the band Six

Six-mania came to Dublin's trendiest street today as the latest pop sensation Six launched their new single at the HMV record shop on Grafton Street.

Eager youngsters screamed, swooned and sometimes cried as they met their idols, who themselves were pop fans up until a few months ago.

Kyle, Sinead, Liam, Andy, Emma and Sarah - remember their names, all the kids will - were selected from thousands of young hopefuls who auditioned for the RTÉ series Popstars.

Pop impresario Louis Walsh will manage the band who hope to follow in the footsteps of Louis' other proteges Westlifeand Boyzone- all the way to the top of the worldwide charts.

There's A Whole Lot Of Lovin' Going Onis the band's debut single and according to Rob Walpole, manager of HMV, Grafton Street, it is one of the fastest selling singles in Irish history.

"They’ve been queuing up some them since 10 o’clock this morning," Mr Walpole said.

"Oh my God, Oh my God, I’m shaking, look; look, I’m shaking, Oh my God," said Amy O’Brien (14) from Clondalkin. She had just received a kiss from both Andy and Liam.

"They’re so nice they really are, oh God, they’re so nice. I got a kiss off all of them ... look at me I’m still trembling," exclaimed Anita Walsh (14) also from Clondalkin.

Anita and Amy’s friend Vanessa Carroll from Lucan said she hoped one day to be a popstar herself. She has already sung for the Dublin secondary schools choir she said. "Now I have to find Louis Walsh."
