Teenager's road death brings weekend toll to six

The man, believed to be in his teens, died when the car which he was driving struck a telegraph pole and burst into flames at 2 p.m. today

The man was the sole occupant of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene at Manch Middle, Ballineen, Co Cork.

His death brings to six the number of people killed on the roads this weekend.

Early this morning, another young man was seriously injured in a road accident near Ardagh, Co Longford.

The man was taken to Mullingar General Hospital, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, gardai have named all five of those killed in yesterday's accidents.

The cyclist who was killed when his bicycle was in collision with a motorbike at Carrick-on-Shannon has been named as Lorcan Molloy, Farnagh, Carrick-on-Shannon, who was in his 20s.

The motorbike was driven by Conan Duignan, who also died in the incident. He was in his 30s, from Summerhill in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The two men killed when their car overturned at Ballybofey, Co Donegal early yesterday were Marcus McAnenny (18) from Lisnafinn, Strabane and Gerard Stevenson (23) from Greves Park, Strabane.

Finally, the motorcyclist killed on the main New Ross/Wexford road yesterday was Shane O'Neill (24), from Adamstown, New Ross.
