Teenager critical after Dublin fight

A 17-year-old youth is in a critical condition in hospital today after he was injured in a disturbance in Dublin city centre.

A 17-year-old youth is in a critical condition in hospital today after he was injured in a disturbance in Dublin city centre.

Gardaí said they were called to Middle Abbey Street at about 2.30am today after reports a fight had broken out between a number of people.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the 17-year-old had suffered injuries and he was taken to the Mater Hospital.

He was later transferred to Beaumont hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition.

A 29-year-old man arrested at the scene is being detained under section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act at Store Street Garda Station.

Meanwhile after a separate incident gardaí were today trying to establish how a man in his 40's suffered serious head injuries in Dublin city centre in the early hours of the morning.

He was found lying on the road at the junction of Nassau Street and Grafton Street at around 2.00am.

A Garda spokesman said when their officers arrived the man was surrounded by a large crowd of people and they appealed to anyone who saw how he suffered his injuries to contact them..

The man, originally from Scotland but living in the Clonskeagh area of Dublin, was detained in St James' Hospital were his condition was said to be stable.
