A teenager accused of smearing excrement in a west Belfast church during a break-in was appearing in court today.

A teenager accused of smearing excrement in a west Belfast church during a break-in was appearing in court today.

The 18-year-old was charged with indecent behaviour and drug offences by detectives investigating the attack on St Agnes chapel a year ago.

Religious statues, pews, statues and other items in the church on the Catholic Andersonstown Road were smashed.

The funeral of an 85-year-old woman was also delayed after her coffin, which was lying in the building, was damaged in the attack in September last year.

Police last night said the man was also charged with possession of Ecstasy and criminal damage to a coffin.

He was also accused of damaging a parochial candle, confession box doors, Celtic crosses, chapel windows and religious statues. The man is due to appear before magistrates in the city today.
