A primary teacher has been convicted of sexually abusing one of his pupils over a three-year period.
The jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard he gave extra marks for school assignments by the victim as compensation for the abuse. The now 30-year-old victim said the teacher used to put his hand inside his trousers and feel his genitals. Other former pupils said they saw the abuse take place. The 42-year-old defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to four counts of sexually assaulting the boy at a Dublin school on dates between January 1977 and December 1980.
Judge Frank O'Donnell remanded the teacher on continuing bail for sentencing on March 24th.
