Va tacito e nascosto; care selve; where ere you walk - > Handel Zueignung; Morgen; Hat gesagt - > Strauss Colleen's Wedding Song - > Harty Wee Hughie - > Larchet Una voce poco fa - > Rossini
Tanya Sewell has an attractive voice with good round tone which moves to lower or upper registers without coarsening the voice and without a sense of strain. In the selection of songs by Handel, Care Selve was particularly beautiful, each note seeming to melt on the air.
Three familiar songs by Strauss gave more opportunities for expressiveness, and singer and accompanist Trudi Carberry were at one in the languishing strains of Morgen, while the gentle humour of Hat gesagt was neatly pointed.
The coy rural innocence of the songs by Harty and Larchet is harder and harder to accept and yet singers continue to programme them.
The aria from Rossini's Barber of Seville for all its vocal acrobatics was closer to a credibly realised situation and was delivered with an easy confidence.
