The Tanaiste Mary Harney today announced the establishment of the North Dublin Training and Job Placement Initiative to tackle the recent rise in job losses in the area.

"This initiative will bring together FAS, the Local Area Partnership, Local Authority, the County Enterprise Board and Enterprise Ireland to ensure that people losing their jobs are fully appraised of employment, training and business opportunities", the Tanaiste said.

"In terms of a competitive environment and excellent infrastructure this area is one of the best-positioned locations for attracting new investment of every type as has been evidenced in recent years," she added.

"I am optimistic that this area will continue its strong development despite recent setbacks."

The Tanaiste also expressed her regret at the announcement by Celestica that it is seeking 450 voluntary redundancies at its Sword facility.

"I know that the IDA is committed to giving every support necessary to Celestica to consolidate their existing operation and continue to employ over 500 workers", she added.
