Suspected Islamic militants killed seven people overnight near the western Algerian city of Oran, security services said today.
The killings took place in Bethioua, some 40 kilometres (25 miles) east of Oran. The area around the port city has been increasingly attacked by militants in recent weeks.
On Saturday, an armed group killed 11 people and wounded eight people -- four of them seriously -- in the town of Arzew just outside Oran during a Muslim funeral vigil.
