LONDON - Opposition MPs inflicted a swift revenge on the British government last night after declaring all-out parliamentary war amid allegations of Tory "cheating" to win votes. The government suffered a surprise defeat by seven votes in the Commons as MPs backed a Labour demand to give courts the power to order offenders convicted of stalking to undergo counselling. The defeat came hours after Labour and the Liberal Democrats withdrew from a key part of traditional co-operation with the government, following allegations that the Tories cheated in Monday night's vote on fishing which they won by II votes.
