Superquinn announced today it will be forgoing all profits made on Fairtrade products in all Superquinn stores nationwide.
Food manufacturers buy from registered food suppliers in Third World countries according to Fairtrade criteria giving the suppliers higher margins on their produce.
Fairtrade products are usually more expensive because the price includes a significantly better deal for producers in developing countries.
Mr Eamonn Quinn of Superquinn said that Fairtrade enables consumers to take responsibility for the role they play when they buy products from the Third World.
The range of Fairtrade products available at Superquinn stores nationwide includes: Robert Roberts Fair Trade Tea; Tea Direct Tea Bags; Café Direct Ground Coffee Filter Roast; Café Direct Ground Coffee Kilmanjaro; Café Direct Ground Coffee Organic; Café Direct Ground Coffee Rich Roast; Café Direct Instant Coffee; Chocaid Organic Milk Chocolate Bar; Libby's Fruit Passion Breakfast Drink; Libby's Fruit Passion Tropical Drink; Fair Trade Bananas and Fair Trade Grapes.
