Sainsbury’s is creating almost 200 jobs at supermarkets in Carrickfergus and Belfast, it announced today.

Recruitment of 150 employees to work at its new store in Carrickfergus begins this week. The store is due to open late in the year.

The store was recently acquired from Co-Op and is also offering employment to the 40 existing staff.

Meanwhile the west Belfast store which opened earlier this month is to recruit 40 extra staff because it has been trading beyond initial expectations, said Sainsbury’s.

David Davidson, regional operations manager for Sainsbury’s Northern Ireland, said: “This is great news for both areas. We recruited more than 100 colleagues in west Belfast in advance of the opening while retaining in the region of 250 existing jobs — so 40 new colleagues at this site will be another welcome boost.

“We are delighted at how the store has been trading to date and at our customers’ response to the Sainsbury’s offering in west Belfast.”

He said they looked forward to starting the recruitment process in Carrickfergus and welcoming existing Co-Op staff.

“We are expecting a lot of interest in these jobs which are across all disciplines of the business.”
