The body of a young man which was washed up on the banks of the Corrib river in Galway yesterday has been identified as that of a 19-yearold student who had been missing for 10 days.

Mr Enda Whelan went missing in Galway, where he was to board a bus for Athlone on January 18th. The Athlone RTC student told a friend to look after his rucksack while he went to a nearby shop, but he failed to return.

The alarm was raised when he failed to return to his family home at Clonbur, Co Galway, last Friday night.

Mr Whelan's brother was killed in a farm accident less than two years ago.
