Puerto Baquerizo Moreno - Salvage teams have given up trying to move the stricken oil tanker that fouled the Galapagos islands, and will have to leave it where it is, the US Coast Guard said yesterday.
The Ecuadoran navy had hoped to bring the semi-submerged Jessica to an even keel and refloat it. The tanker ran aground outside the tiny harbour of San Cristobal island last week, spilling most of its 240,000-gallon fuel cargo into the archipelago's crystalline waters.
