A street vigil in Dublin, organised by the Peace Train organisation, was cancel led yesterday after the leadership decided that a musical event in the Temple Bar area might cause interference.

The vigil, due to take place at 3 p.m. in College Green, was to commemorate gardai who died in the course of duty since the foundation of the State. According to the organisation's chairman, Mr Chris Hudson, it was also intended to pay special tribute to Det Garda Jerry McCabe, and journalist Ms Veronica Guerin.

Mr Hudson said he and a small number of people had held a minute's silence at College Green. They would not hold any more events until September and the next would be indoors, he added.
