London - The standing stones at Stonehenge and Avebury in Britain depict human faces just like the stone statues found on Easter Island in the Pacific, a physicist claimed in a British newspaper yesterday.

The prehistoric standing stones at Stonehenge and Avebury, have been the subject of speculation for generations. People have variously argued that the stone circles were built by visiting aliens or pagan worshippers and were used as an antiquated calendar or for magical rites. Former professor of physics, Mr Terence Meaden, argues that Avebury is an art gallery dedicated to a mother goddess figure, the Independent on Sunday said.

Photographs show what could be human faces as well as sheep and snakes in the stones at certain angles in certain lights, Mr Meaden said.
