A trip to buy sausages turned into a £5 million dream for a lucky Dublin couple who scooped Saturday's third highest Lotto jackpot.
Declan and Linda Fleming from Swords collected their cheque for £5,268,052 at a champagne reception at National Lottery headquarters today.
Mrs Fleming recalled how her husband bought the ticket when he was buying sausages on Saturday morning.
"We had planned to have a full cooked breakfast on Saturday but when I looked at the sausages, they were out of date. So I turned to Declan and said 'would you mind going down to the shops and getting some and while you're at it buy a Quickpick for the big jackpot."
After staring at their winning numbers on Aertel on Saturday night, the couple realised they were the only winners, but still did not believe they had really won.
At their local pub on Sunday they met a friend who bought them a drink to celebrate his win on a Match 5 lotto prize. "We couldn't say a thing," said Declan Fleming. "We'll buy him one tonight though - that's a sure thing."
Declan and Linda, who will be married 12 years in May say they have no immediate plans for the win, except to look after their families. Declan is the Sales Director in his own business, while Linda is Retail Account Manager with Compaq Computers.
Ever dedicated she went into work this morning before collecting her cheque.
The biggest lotto jackpot to date was for £7.4 million in 1996 which was split two ways. A winner from Cork scooped the second biggest prize of £6.2 million in 1997.
