Staff evacuated from Sligo plant

Authorities were forced to evacuate 400 staff from a Sligo factory this morning after fears of a chemical spill emerged.

Authorities were forced to evacuate 400 staff from a Sligo factory this morning after fears of a chemical spill emerged.

Three units of the Sligo fire brigade were called to Abbott Diagnostics Plant, Finisklin, at around lunchtime today.

Chemicals stored outside the plant were decontaminated and the fire brigade are now in the process of decontaminating a second set of chemicals.

The area has been sealed off and it is not considered that it is of any danger to the public.
