ROME - The trial of the former SS officer, Mr Erich Priebke, was thrown into confusion yesterday after sensational allegations by the prosecution against the military judges hearing the case. The entire proceedings may have to begin again.

Prosecuting counsel, Mr Antonio Intelisano, asked in court for all three judges to be removed. A report on the state owned television network said one of the judges had said at the start of the trial the verdict was already decided. But other sources indicated the alleged offence had been imputed to a court official. The case was suspended until July 10th.
