SportHQ, the new headquarters for the national governing bodies of sport in Ireland, was officially opened by the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O'Donoghue in Dublin today.
The facility, situated in Parkwest Business Park, Dublin 12, was provided by the Irish Sports Council to meet the administrative and business needs of numerous sport governing bodies across the state.
"The governing bodies are the keystones of Irish sport," said O'Donoghue at today's opening. "It is through the sports bodies that sport can be developed and delivered at every level to the Irish sports community and it is only right that these bodies are accommodated properly."
For many years a number of sports bodies were housed at O'Neill's House of Sport on the Long Mile Road, Walkinstown in Dublin. Now SportHQ will add to the 16 sports bodies currently housed at the purpose built location.
In addition to meeting administrative needs for the various bodies SportHQ also provides, office accommodation, conference/meeting rooms plus audio/visual presentation suites and catering facilities.
"This new facility will make a major contribution to the modernisation of Irish sports organisations," said John Treacy, Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council, at today's opening. "SportHQ will be a catalyst for further important developments in the efficient administration of our sports."
