A spectator was killed yesterday at the Armoy road races in County Antrim.

Hill McCook Senior (75) was from the Armoy area.

A rider and a second spectator were also injured during the accident on the Dean's Rise part of the course during the second lap of the final race.

The incident, on the Ballycastle Road, occurred at around 4.30pm. The PSNI and Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre) are investigating.

Clerk of Course Bill Kennedy said he and Armoy Motorcycle and Road Racing Club are devastated by the news.

"Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the family at this sad time," he said.

The injuries sustained by a rider and second spectator are not believed not to be serious.

MLA Declan O'Loan expressed his sympathy to Mr McCook's family and called for a full inquiry in to the crash.
