Spanish fishermen rescued off Kerry coast

A Spanish crew was airlifted to safety this evening after their fishing vessel hit rocks on the Kerry coast.

A Spanish crew was airlifted to safety this evening after their fishing vessel hit rocks on the Kerry coast.

The Celestial Dawn, with a crew of 10 men, ran aground in Dingle Habour at about 7.30 p.m. as the vessel was putting out to sea.

The Shannon based coastguard helicopter arrived within an hour and airlifted the crew to safety. The Valencia Lifeboat was also at the scene.

Valentia Coastguard reported Force 6 winds and said there was a heavy swell at the harbour.

Another Spanish trawler, the Sea Star, was damaged in high winds today about 250 miles off the Donegal coast. It is expected to arrive at Killybegs sometime tonight. There is a crew of 15 on board.
