Six men remain in custody after being arrested following the seizure of a van containing half a tonne of an explosive mix by gardai.

The explosive mix was discovered in the vehicle when gardaí raided an outhouse near Hackballscross, Co Louth, yesterday.

Gardaí believe that the explosives were for use by dissident republicans.

The ages of those arrested ranges from early twenties to mid-30s. They are being held under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be detained for 72 hours.
