A suicide bomber killed at least six people and wounded 15 others in the Iraqi city of Ramadi today, the deputy governor of Anbar province said.
The bomber blew himself up during a ceremony at a cultural centre, said deputy governor Hikmet Khalaf, who said he was at the scene of the blast.
"We were in the middle of a ceremony to celebrate the anniversary of Prophet Mohammad's birthday when a male suicide bomber came to the door of the room and said 'God is great' and blew himself up," Khalaf, who was injured in the explosion, told Reuters.
While overall violence in Iraq has dropped from the height of sectarian warfare in 2006-7, bombings and attacks still occur daily almost eight years after the US-led invasion.
Anbar province, Iraq's Sunni heartland, witnessed some of the fiercest fighting during the war.
