ATTEMPTS were being made last night to avert strike action at the Royal Dublin Hotel, which is due to begin this morning at 7 a.m.

The strike involves about 70 manual staff such as cleaners, porters and caterers.

Strike notice was originally served for last Saturday but action was deferred to allow talks at the Labour Relations Commission on Wednesday.

These broke down and SIPTU members met in Liberty Hall last night to make arrangements for the strike.
