Traditional folk singer Dolores Keane was too ill to come to court yesterday to face a charge of drink driving near her home last year, her solicitor told the district court judge.

Keane (58), Caherlistrane, Tuam, is charged with a drink driving offence at Clonboo, Corrandulla, on November 19th, 2010.

Her solicitor, Eric Gleeson, told Galway District Court yesterday that Keane was at home suffering from tonsillitis and problems with wisdom teeth and was unable to attend court. His client was entering a plea to the charge and the case could proceed in her absence.

Hearing that Ms Keane had a previous conviction in 2000 for a similar offence, Judge Mary Fahy said she would need to be in court before the matter could be dealt with.
