British singer Pete Doherty was arrested today on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs immediately after he appeared in court on driving offences.
The 30-year-old Babyshambles frontman escaped a prison term at Gloucester Crown Court after admitting careless and drink driving following a gig in the city in June, but he was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £2,050.
Police officers then escorted him from the court to the police station across the road.
Gloucester police confirmed he had been arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug, although they did not specify what type.
"A 30-year-old man from Wiltshire has been arrested ... on suspicion of possession on a controlled substance," a spokeswoman said. "He is currently assisting police with their inquiries."
