An armed Garda unit were called into a housing estate in Limerick city earlier today after shots were fired at two uniformed officers.
The officers were called out to St Munchin's Street in the St Mary's Park area of the city to investigate two shooting incidents.
A Garda spokeswoman said four or five shots were fired at them at 4.30am as they took details at the scene. "Nobody was injured but an operation was put in place and armed units were called in," she said.
It is believed the shots were fired from a pistol. The gardai who came under attack had been investigating two shooting attacks on houses in St Munchin's Street.
At 9.50pm last night, two shots were fired at the front door of a house and at 3.30am, two shots were fired at the kitchen window and the upstairs bedroom window of another house. The Garda investigation into all three shooting incidents is continuing.
