Mr Martin McGuinness, the Sinn Féin Mid Ulster MP, accused the loyalist Ulster Defence Association of planting the device.

He said: "The reckless and indiscriminate nature of the bomb attack at the Moyola Golf Course this morning marks a sinister development in the activity of these unionist militias.

"I have no doubt that the UDA under one of its flags of convenience was responsible for this incident.

"But none of these groups would be able to operate with such impunity without the connivance and blind eye attitude of the RUC."
