Seven killed in weekend road accidents

A 37-year-old man was killed in an accident in the Collin Road outside Ballyclare, Co Antrim. He was a passenger in a red Audi which left the road. No other vehicle it thought to have been involved.

The RUC have also named the two girls killed in the early morning road traffic collision on the Belfast Road outside Newtownards in Co Down.

They were Tammy Towers (16) from Clagan Park in Dundonald, near Belfast, and Laura Ross (15) from Castlehill Park, Comber, a few miles away in Co Down.

They were passengers in the car being driven by one of three youths, all of whom were taken to hospital. All three were reported to be "serious but stable", with one in intensive care.

Meanwhile Gardai released the names of the four people who were killed in road accidents in the Republic since Friday.

A motorcyclist, Mr William Murphy (32) of Dronina, Charleville in Co Cork, was killed in a collision involving a car. The incident happened at around 2.30 a.m. on the Dromina to Freemount Road.

Yesterday afternoon Ms Treasa Kenehan (30) from Leixlip, Co Kildare, was killed in a road collision. The incident happened on the main Kilcock to Clane road in Co Kildare and involved two cars. Four other people were injured.

Also in Co Kildare, Ms Ester Tiernan (33) of Rondread Lawn in Naas, Co Kildare, was killed in road accident yesterday morning.

On Friday, Mr John Dolan (76) of Birr, Co Offlay, was killed in a two-vehicle collision at Harbour Cross.
