Seeing pink

Obviously some people, especially councillors, don't recognise art when they see it. Dublin Labour councillor Eamon O'Brien tabled the following question to the city manager for written answer over the summer: Will he "explain the relevance of a pair of pink knickers covered by plate glass and on view at the entrance floor to the civic offices; a number of bemused/confused visitors to the atrium areas have quizzed me on this issue; perhaps there is a simple explanation given that April 1st has passed."

John Fitzgerald replied: "The item referred to was part of an art exhibition mounted by the College of Art and Design. It is not appropriate for the Corporation to comment on or censor such exhibits."
